10 Fashion tips every girl should know

When it comes to fashion tips, it sometimes seems that everyone and their mother (literally!) has tried-and-true advice they absolutely swear by. Some are useful, while others … well, not so much. With that in mind, we’ve culled 10 fashion tips from the best: designers, lifestyle experts and, of course, our staff. Trust us: With these gems, you’ll be well on your way to living your most stylish life.

1. Wash new jeans twice before taking them to the tailor. Why? Because jeans will always shrink in length when washed.

2. The secret to well-fitting everyday clothes is Lycra. The formulas to look for: 95% cotton/5% Lycra spandex for T-shirts, and at least 2% Lycra for jeans to hold their shape.

3.  Always organize your clothes going light to dark from left to right in your closet. Your eye will follow the color and thus help you stay organized.

4. Cut down your closet by 25% by asking yourself this one question: “If I were shopping right this second, would I buy this?” If the answer’s no, out it goes.

5. Dressy occasions aren’t the time to play with trends, so know your silhouette and stick to it to always look your best.

6. Revamp an old coat by swapping out the buttons and having a tailor replace the lining with something eye-catching, like a pattern or a bright color.

7. Break in stiff or too-snug shoes by slipping them on with socks and blasting your feet with a hot hairdryer.

8.  Ideally, a pencil skirt should hit just at the top of your knee. Any lower and it will start to shorten your leg.

9. Pants a bit too tight? Let them air dry and stretch the waistband by hand (or with a hairdryer) while they’re still damp.

10. Still look chic while showing some skin: If you’re wearing a miniskirt or shorts, cover up on top. If your top is skimpy, go for full-coverage bottoms.

5 Tips to Shop During Sale!

It's possibly the best feeling for any fashion lover - that moment when you find that item you've wanted at half price. It’s easy to be tempted by a low price tag and end up with clothes that you will probably never wear. Read our top tips to make sure you make the most of the end of the season sales.

Stick to the basics
If you stick to the staple pieces you can't go wrong. Invest in timeless, well-cut dresses, jackets and trousers, without any obvious references to current trends. You'll then be able to wear them season after season.

Update classics with accessories
Accessories are the quickest and most affordable way to update an existing outfit. Look out for quality belts, necklaces, bags and shoes. Use these accessories to bring in transient seasonal trends and create classic looks with a contemporary twist.

Think big
It is better to buy something which is slightly large, on the basis that you can customise it or a tailor can alter it to fit you, rather than waste money on something slightly small in the belief that one day you will fit into it.

Take stock of your wardrobe
Before heading out to the sales, take stock and assess your wardrobe. Note the items which need replacing. Then, while shopping, use the list to keep focused, and stop you getting carried away and purchasing things on a whim that you don't need, or won't work with the rest of your wardrobe

Plan your trip to the sales
Make a list what you need and the shops you can get these from. Get there early to be sure you don't miss out. Or avoid the crowds and scrambling through the rails altogether and shop the sales from the comfort of your bed!

7 Denim tricks for every girl!

In the interest of effectively prolonging the life of your jeans no matter how much they cost—we’ve compiled 7 truly useful tips including how to wash them, when you should be washing them, and how to fold like ‘em like a pro. Consider this your ultimate source for keeping that pair of jeans looking killer for years to come!

1. Serious denim aficionados know that raw denim (super-stiff jeans with no washes, fading, etc) can take up to six months to break in and shouldn’t be washed until then. Why? Jeans really do conform to our bodies, and when you wash them, most of the shape is lost.

2. What about odors, you ask? We’re getting to that! To zap the smell that comes with wear, hang your jeans in the bathroom before a shower (the damp steam will keep them fresh between washes), or freeze them in a plastic bag for two days (yup, this one really works.)

3. To prevent fading, wash jeans inside out in cold water on the delicate cycle, or by hand with Woolite. If you actually want denim to fade quickly, wash once in hot water.

4. Add a 1/2 cup of distilled white vinegar to the final rinse cycle while doing laundry to maintain the wash of your favorite pair of dark jeans.

5. Wash new jeans twice before taking them to the tailor. Why? Because jeans will always shrink in length when washed.

6. How to fold jeans like a pro: Lay a pair on a flat surface, fold in half from left to right. Grab the stacked jean legs and fold them in half so the hem of the jeans lines up with the waistband. Fold the jeans in half one more time. Voila!

7. If you don’t have time to try on jeans in the store, try the Neck Method: You can determine your size by placing the waistline of the jeans around the diameter of your neck. If the waistline of the pant comfortably meets at back of your neck, then the jeans will fit.

Hope these tips would help you take care of your denims, do check out the great collection of jeans at a Madame store near you. Follow our website www.madameonline.com
